ABOUT
Ganeshnagar is a transit camp for people who were displaced during the Ahmedabad river front development. These people were given a plot of
10ft x 15 ft to setup temporary shelters until they would get permanent houses.
The camp consists of a mix neighborhood of people from different caste, religions and places. While majority are Hindus & Muslims from West Bengal, Marwadis from Rajasthan and Gujarat.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Average Family size: 5 people
Number of families living here: currently around 700 families
Major occupation: daily wage laborers Rag pickers and Auto rickshaw drivers
Educational infrastructure: there are 4 Anganwadis out of which only 3 are functional. There is 1 Primary school which does not function regularly.
Water supply: The area has bore wells and overhead tanks. Some people have access to tap water at home.
Power supply: The neighborhood has Torrent power supply. Some families that cannot afford electricity, uses illegal power supply.
Sanitation: The area has few public toilets, majority of which are non-functional. Some families have built toilets outside their houses. Open defecation is a common practice.
